Crossing Borders | The Whitworth | Manchester

Crossing Borders was an outdoor installation created to shed light on the continued suffering of refugees at the Calais border crossing.

This artwork was informed by volunteering with refugees in Calais and Paris and shares how different this experience was from the news reports I was receiving in the UK.

The work explores the hardships endured by displaced people and uses the power of art and storytelling to challenge media reporting of the current refugee crisis, as well as seeking to encourage discussion, integration and a better understanding of the current situation at our borders.

Crossing Borders was situated on the sculpture terrace of The Whitworth gallery from October to November 2018. Funded by Arts Council England and ArtReach, for Journeys festival International 2018.
